June 2014 - I have added a link to a helpful website on learning how to manage stress in the workplace on the "Stress and Anxiety Resources" page. The link provides access to a variety of resources for managing workplace stress.
June 2014 - I co-authored a paper presented at the 75th Annual Convention of the Canadian Psychological Association in Vancouver, BC. The titile of the paper is "Why is the client? Differing duties of care in psychological injury assessments."

July 3, 2013 - I was recently interviewed for an article in the The Province newspaper about ways of managing stress associated with commuting. To read the article, click HERE.
June 3, 2013 -I was interviewed for an article about hair-pulling (trichotillomania) in "Flare" magazine. The article describes some of the characteristics of trichotillomania and briefly notes some of the treatment approaches, notably cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and habit-reversal training. The article can be found HERE.
May 27, 2013 - I uploaded a guide for the treatment of Acute Stress Disorder and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, published by the Australian government. The guide discusses some of the symptoms of PTSD and ASD and explains the role of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in the treatment of the conditions. The guide is found on the "PTSD Resources" page under "Acute Stress Disorder and PTSD (Australia).
August 25, 2011 - I have added debit (Interac) as an additional form of payment. Payment for cognitive-behavioral therapy sessions can now be made in a variety of ways including cash, cheque, debit card (Interac) and credit cards (Mastercard, Visa).
August 2, 2011 - Uploaded "Assert Yourself Module 2 - How to Recognize Assertive Behavior" to the "Wellness Resources" page. The module is the second in a series on assertiveness from the Centre for Clinical Interventions. The module reviews different types of interpersonal styles.
July 12, 2011 - Uploaded "Assert Yourself Module 1 - What is Assertiveness?" to the "Wellness Resources" page. The module is the first of a series from the Centre for Clinical Interventions and it introduces the concept of assertivenss and challenges misperceptions and myths about assertiveness.
March 15, 2011 - Uploaded a new article on Managing Test Anxiety to the "Anxiety Resources" page. A really nice workbook to help university and high school students deal with the inherent pressures and anxiety associated with test taking.
February 8, 2011 - An interesting CBC News article on the rise in anxiety disorders among Canadians came out today. The article discusses the rates of anxiety disroders and provides some information about different types of anxiety. To see the article, please click HERE.
November 26, 2010 - I will be giving a presentation at a conference for the Trial Lawyers Association of BC on Friday, December 3, 2010. The presentation will be on evidence-based psychological treatments for psychological injuries resulting from motor vehicle accidents, industrial accidents and other traumatic events. August 18, 2010 - I was interviewed about issues related to managing stress and anxiety on radio station RJ1200 in Vancouver this afternoon. The discussion covered a variety of topics including types of anxiety conditions and ways of managing and coping with stress.
August 3, 2010 - I have uploaded a new information sheet for friends of family who experience anxiety. The information sheet provides tips about what to do and not do to support a loved one with anxiety. The information sheet can be found on the "Stress and Anxiety Resources" page.
May 11, 2010 - I now have a direct office line through which I can be reached during office hours. The number is 604-340-5687. I can still be reached through the main switchboard at the North Shore Stress and Anxiety Clinic, but I can be contacted directly on my office number.
March 23, 2010 - I have co-authored a professional talk being presented this week in San Francisco at the 26th Annual Symposium of the American College of Forensic Psychology. The presentation reviews some of the psychological consequences of physician abuse of patients. For more information, go the the "About Dr. Nader" page.
February 2, 2010 - I have become a founding member of the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behvaioral Therapies. The mission of the organization is to advance the science and practice of CBT in Canada.
December 17, 2009 - It has been a very busy fall and I have been unable to update the website as much as I would have liked. However, I have added a recent edition of the Visions journal to the "CBT Resources" page. The entire edition focusses on cognitive-behavioral therapy and provides a really nice description of CBT for a variety of conditions.
October 7, 2009 - Uploaded a new workbook to the "PTSD Resources" page for families in which one of the parents has PTSD. The workbook was developed by Veterans Affairs Canada and is a good resource for tips on how to manage young children in a family with PTSD.
June 25, 2009 - I was interviewed today by Global TV News for a story about how people are able to cope with tramatic experiences in adaptive and positive ways. It was a just a brief comment emphasizing the importance of focussing on what resources are available to a person rather than focussing on potential negative outcomes.
June 17, 2009 - Added a link on the "OCD Resources" page to the A&E television series "Obsessed". One of the best shows I have seen describing true stories of OCD (as well as other anxiety conditions) and cognitive-behavioral treatment.
April 21, 2009 - Uploaded an excellent information sheet about panic attacks and panic disorder from AnxietyBC. The information sheet details some of the features of panic attacks and the differences between panic attacks and panic disorder. It is available on the "Panic Resources" page.
March 20, 2009 - Added a terrific information sheet describing the features and principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy to the "CBT Resources" page. The information sheet was developed by AnxietyBC and provides a very nice summary of CBT.
February 27, 2009 - Uploaded a new chapter of a workbook called "What, Me Worry - Overview of Worry" to the "GAD Resources" page. The chapter describes a model of understanding worry and a number of the factors that tend to maintain excessive worry.
February 18, 2009 - I have accepted a new position as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. In the position, I will be training PhD level graduate students in how to do therapy via telehealth with remote communities in BC.
February 4, 2009 - I have uploaded a new information sheet to the "OCD Resources" page. It is from AnxietyBC and provides information on obsessions, compulsions, how OCD can affect a person's daily life and related anxiety.

December 8, 2008 - Added a link to the OCD Symptoms website on the "OCD Resources" page. This is a very good not-for-profit website providing information on symptoms, types and treatment of OCD.
November 24, 2008 - I was interviewed for an article on the impact of financial stress that appeared in the Globe and Mail today. The article discusses some of the ways in which financial stress can impact people, as well as ways to manage it. Click here to see the article.
November 4, 2008 - Uploaded some self-help information for understanding and managing symptoms of OCD, from AnxietyBC. A nicely written, clear summary of CBT approaches for OCD and it can be found on the "OCD Resources" page
October 1, 2008 - I was on the CTV Evening News last night discussing ways people can manage stress and worry related to the current financial crisis. The key point was that active problem solving - and not worrying - is the most effective way to deal with anxiety related to financial worries. For more information of active problem solving skills, see the "General Wellness Resources" page.
September 9, 2008 - Just published my 5th article in the North Shore News entitled "Understanding Through Confusion". The article examines the role of guided discovery in the development of faith.
September 4, 2008 - Added a new worksheet published by AnxietyBC on how to tolerate uncertainty to the "GAD Resources" page. Intolerance of uncertainty is a major factor that tends to maintain excessive worry and the information sheet describes ways of coping with uncertainty.
August 6, 2008 - Recently published a new scientific article in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders. It is based on research I supervised while I was a clinical psychology graduate student at UBC. For more information, see the "Content by Dr. Nader" page.
July 29, 2008 - Added a new workbook to the "PTSD Resources" page. It is published by Veterans Affairs and relates primarily to PTSD from combat experiences. However, much of the information in the book applies to other forms of PTSD.
July 24, 2008 - Uploaded a self-help guide from AnxietyBC for managing panic on the "Panic Resources" page. Nice summary of CBT tools for dealing with panic.
July 9, 2008 - Added a new workbook to the "General Wellness Resources" page focussing on teaching practical problem solving techniques. It is a very nicely written, clear to follow workbook, walking through a stepwise approach to solve problems.
July 2, 2008 - Uploaded a self help guide workbook to the "GAD Resources" page. The workbook discusses simple, practical skills for dealing with worry, published by the NHS.

2008 - Uploaded an information sheet about Agoraphobia to the "Panic
Resources" page. The information sheet is published by AnxietyBC and
provides a nice description of Agoraphobia and discusses the relationship
between Agoraphobia and Panic Disorder.
May 21, 2008 - Have recently published my first book based on my doctoral dissertation. The book examines infant pain expression throughout the first year of life and parental judgements of pain. It is available for purchase from a number of online bookstores. Click here for more details.
April 30, 2008 - Uploaded a new workbook entitled "What? Me Worry!?!" to the "GAD Resources" page. The workbook is the first module in a series and provides an overview of generalized anxiety.
April 22, 2008 - Added a new workbook titled "Managing Your Phobia" to the "Specific Phobia Resources" page. The workbook provides a nice explanation and summary of how to manage phobias.
March 25, 2008 - Added some information about Generalized Anxiety Disorder from AnxietyBC to the "GAD Resources" page. A nice summary of the symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
February 15, 2008 - Updated the "About Dr. Nader" page to include my work with the Telehealth Program at the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. I am providing psychological assessment and cognitive-behavioural therapy using teleconferencing with the communities of Bella Bella and Bella Coola, BC. Populations served include Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal adults with depression and/or anxiety conditions. I have been doing this work since September 2007 and as far as we are aware, we are the only clinic in Canada providing psychological treatment using teleconferencing technology.

the features and symptoms of PTSD.
January 18, 2008 - Uploaded an OCD workbook to the "OCD Resources" page. It provides a nice explanation of how to do exposure and response prevention for managing OCD symptoms.
December 18, 2007 - I will be doing a
public lecture for the North and West Vancouver Branch of the Canadian
Mental Health Association on January 30, 2008. The lecture will provide
information on the most common types of anxiety disorders and
evidence-based treatments for those disorders.
November 8, 2007 - Added a self-help guide to the "OCD Resources" page. It is an excellent workbook that provides valuable information about OCD, as well as descriptions of important treatment components, including exposure and response prevention.
November 2, 2007 - Uploaded a patient treatment manual to the "Panic Resources" page. The manual was developed at the Clinical Research Unit for Anxiety Disorders and includes a lot of information about panic attacks and cognitive behavioral skills for managing panic (e.g., relaxation training, exposure to feared situations, changing thoughts related to panic).
October 20, 2007 - Reorganized the "Links" page, including links to various websites across a variety of categories (e.g., colleagues, anxiety, chronic pain, depression, general mental health, generalized anxiety/worry, OCD, panic, PTSD).
October 18, 2007 - Added an Assertiveness Workbook to the "General Wellness Resources" page. The workbook defines assertive, passive and aggressive behavior and outlines skills to help improve assertiveness.
October 7, 2007 - I apologize for being so lax with my updates to the website. However, I uploaded the BC Mental Health Guide, published by the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, to the "General Wellness Resources" page. It is an excellent source of information about a variety of local mental health resources.
September 14, 2007 - Uploaded a workbook to the "General Wellness Resources" page aimed at aiding in problem-solving skills. It is an easy-to-use guide, walking through five steps of problem-solving.
September 1, 2007 - Added another series of videos from Dr. David Henley's "It's a Brain Thing" series. The three videos are about obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and can be found at the "OCD Resources" page.
August 26, 2007 - Added another series of videos from Dr. David Henley's "It's a Brain Thing" series. The three videos are about posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and can be found at the "PTSD Resources" page.
August 13, 2007 - Created a link to a Time Magazine article on the "OCD Resources" page called "When Worry Hijacks the Brain". It describes some of the current medical theories about causes of obsessive-compulsive disorder and emphasizes the importance of CBT techniques (particularly exposure and response prevention) in treating OCD.
August 6, 2007 - Uploaded a new workbook to the "Depression Resources" page. It is called "Antidepressant Skills at Work: Dealing with mood problems in the workplace" and is published by the BC Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Centre for Applied Research in Mental Health and Addiction. This free workbook is an adaptation of the excellent Antidepressant Skills Workbook.
August 1, 2007 - Added a self-help guide for managing panic attacks on the "Panic Resources" page. A very informative workbook describing the features of panic, providing information for understanding panic and techniques to help cope with and reduce panic attacks.
July 26, 2007 - Added another series of videos from Dr. David Henley's "It's a Brain Thing" series. The two new videos are about Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and can be found on the "GAD Resources" page.
July 16, 2007 - Added a series of new videos to the "Panic Resources" page. It is part of a series of web lectures by Dr. David Henley called "It's a Brain Thing". These five videos discuss Panic Disorder and describe some of the features of panic and CBT treatment of panic.
July 11, 2007 - Uploaded a booklet on the "Depression Resources" page for people struggling with depression and their families. It is called "All Together Now" and provides information about the impact of depression on families and some helpful tips for families dealing with depression. It is published by Health Canada and the Canadian Mental Health Association.
June 29, 2007 - Added a new toolkit for family members of people struggling with anxiety, depression or other mental health issues on the "General Wellness Resources" page. It is called "Supporting Recovery from a Mental or Substance Use Disorder", published by BC Partners for Mental Health and Addictions.
June 22, 2007 - Uploaded a new guidebook for the survivors of suicide on the "Depression Resources" page. It is called "Hope and Healing", a well written, practical guide, published by the Centre for Applied Research in Mental Health and Addiction.
May 24, 2007 - The publication of two abstracts in The Journal of Pain, recently presented at the 26th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Pain Society. For more information about the abstracts, see the "About Dr. Nader" page.
May 23, 2007 - Uploaded the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Core Information Document published by the Centre for Applied Research in Mental Health and Addiction in association with the BC Ministry of Health. It is a well-written, thorough summary of the effectiveness of CBT for a variety of conditions. The document can be downloaded in its entirety from the "Anxiety Resources" page, or individual chapters can be downloaded from the "GAD Resources", "OCD Resources", "Panic Resources" and "Depression Resources" pages, respectively.
May 18, 2007 - The publication of my fifth article, titled "Like Riding a Bike", in the North Shore News. The article addresses using behavioral goal-setting approaches to developing and growing faith.
May 15, 2007 - Added a fact sheet entitled "Coping with Suicidal Thoughts" on the "Depression Resources" page. It is a new information sheet published by the Centre for Applied Research in Mental Health and Addictions. It provides a number of useful phone numbers and resources for people struggling with thoughts of self harm and suicide.
May 9, 2007 - Added a new fact sheet about depression on the "Depression Resources" page. It is from the McMaster University Medical Centre Anxiety Disorders Clinic.
May 1, 2007 - Uploaded a new workbook on the "GAD Resources" page. It is a patient workbook published by the Clinical Research Unit for Anxiety Disorders at St. Vincent's Hospital in Sydney, Australia. The workbook provides information about a number of cognitive-behavioral skills for managing excessive worry and anxiety.
April 21, 2007 - Added a new article providing information and details about cognitive behavioral therapy on the "Stress & Anxiety" resource page. The article was written for the British Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Psychotherapies.
March 23, 2007 - Added a new website, to the "Chronic Pain Resources" page - www.PainAction.com. A good site with lots of information on chronic pain and pain management tools.
March 22, 2007 - Added a new resource to the "PTSD Resources" page. It is the Winter 2007 edition of the Visions Newsletter (from BC Partners for Mental Health and Addictions) focusing on the impact of trauma and victimization and issues related to PTSD.
March 19, 2007 - I have agreed to work on a part-time, contract basis, as a consultant psychologist with the Complex Pain Service at the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. I will be working on developing, implementing and running community-based chronic pain management groups. This is a very exciting opportunity as there are minimal pain management resources available to people in the community and these groups will hopefully provide much needed information and skills-training to people struggling with chronic pain.
March 12, 2007 - Just completed a major revision to the "Resources" page. Now it is arranged by categories and specific information. Much of the information is in convenient pdf files that can be downloaded and copied for free. I hope people will find it a useful resource for information about anxiety and depression, among other things. I will try and update it regularly as I find more information and websites of interest.
March 5, 2007 - Added a teen version of the "Antidepressant Skills Workbook" to the "Resources" page. It is very well written and free to download.
February 26, 2007 - I have agreed to take a part-time teaching position in the Department of Psychology at UBC. I will be teaching Psychology 542, which is the Introduction to Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) course for Master's level graduate students. The course is designed as an introduction to CBT principles for anxiety, depression and chronic pain, among other conditions.
February 9, 2007 - The publication of my fourth article, titled "Crisis of Faith", in the North Shore News. The article addresses issues of spiritual growth using a cognitive behavioral model.
February 1, 2007 - The long awaited launch of the new North Shore Stress and Anxiety Clinic Website - www.nssac.ca - better organized and more easily navigated with updated profiles of the clinicians at NSSAC.

December 8, 2006 - "Handling Stress at Christmas" My third article published in the North Shore News discussing how much of the stress people experience at Christmas is due to misinterpreting the meaning of Christmas.
November 12, 2006 - Added the "Antidepressant Skills Workbook" and "Anxiety Disorders Toolkit" to my "Resources" page. These are two excellent CBT self-help guides for the management of Depression and Anxiety.
November 3, 2006 - "Mountaintop Experiences" My second article published in the North Shore News. The article uses an example of hiking to demonstrate how changing your perspective on faith can change everything.
March 31, 2006 - "Don't Worry, Be Happy?" My first article published in the North Shore News, noting the similarities between Biblical and cognitive-behavioral approaches to managing worry.
